Passing along today's Social Networking tip:

Facebook Friends Lists
fbDid you know you can sort your friends into various lists? For instance, I just created a Northeast friends list out of my 300 or so friends.  Into that list I put everyone who is either in New England or New York.  Now, when I want to let everyone in the Northeast know about upcoming meetings in that region, I can do send a message to that group it without spamming people in say Washington who more than likely won't be attending those meetings.  I highly suggest that you all take a half hour or so and start to sort your friends into different lists - and yes, people can be in more than one list.

For instance, I have lists for
  • ROC Members
  • Tampa Bay Area
  • Northeast
  • A-teamers
  • IAM Members
  • Northwest
  • Kansas
  • High School Friends
  • Family

and obviously some of these people are in more than one list.

The thinking here is that if you are constantly putting out a whole bunch of information targeting everyone, they will eventually tune you out.  Instead, target your messages to those most likely to be impacted by them.
