Hi subscriber,

Can I Make Jesus Marvel?

by Wayne C. Anderson

The only time in the gospels that it is said that Jesus “marveled” was when a centurion declared his understanding of authority and related it to the authority that Christ had to heal the sick. Jesus then makes the bold statement that would have confounded every Jew that heard Him. He said, “Truly I say to you, I have not found such great faith with anyone in Israel.”

In this powerful statement, Jesus restores all hope to humanity and replaces the boundary lines of authority beyond the realms of Israel only. The love and want for authority caused Israel to look in earthly places, but Jesus proclaims that this position of authority was in the heavenlies, that is, in faith.

The centurion: “I am a man under authority!” Jesus marveled at his faith! “Without faith, it is impossible to please Him!”

If the centurion could cause Jesus to marvel, then you and I are capable of doing the same. If it is only possible to give pleasure to God through faith, then it is faith that I want to put into action so that my heavenly Father might find pleasure in me.

Faith’s authority does not set up rules and laws. A religious (Sanhedrin) spirit will do that. Religion is simply defined when “it is more important to be right than to love.” Rules mean that we must be right. To be right, we must eat the fruit from the “tree of the knowledge of good and evil.” Jesus said to the Pharisees, “Go find out what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice!’”

Faith stands in the place of the Eternals and the very throne room of God the Father of us all. When Jesus told Peter that, “In my Father’s house are many dwelling places… I go and prepare a place for you, that where I AM there, you might also be….” It tells us where we must stand.

This eternal dwelling place is the origin from where all the earth was created! This is the believer’s true home. The extraordinary that comes from that place of the Eternals, that prepared dwelling place, that residency, and that place where we stand as an inherent part, is the place of most significant authority over the things of this earth.
