Walk Like A King!

by: Wayne C. Anderson

In the early 1980s, I had the distinct pleasure of serving Wilford Reidt, the son-in-law of Dr. John G. Lake. Wilford was married to Gertrude, the youngest of Lake's children. I sat with Will for many hours in those days, in offices or restaurants or riding in the car. He would tell me stories about his younger years with Lake, having known him, not only as a preacher of the gospel but also as family.

I well remember a time when Will told me how John Lake would prepare himself for each day by arising in praise, dressing in suit and tie, no matter where he planned to go. He would stop at the door before leaving the house and adjust his tie in the mirror, then place his dress hat properly upon his head, and then speak to his soul as he looked into the mirror, commanding, "Walk like a king!"

This was so that he might walk in true humility and not in a false religious form, trying to act humble. He was made a king by inheritance and the victory of the Great King of all kings, Jesus Christ! Thus, Lake poised his soul to win every battle during the day!

I can remember Will standing up when he told me that story and adjusting his own tie and clothing to act out the part that he had seen Lake perform so many times.

There is an inner voice that speaks of our identity in the Lord Jesus Christ. The voice of a gentle spirit and a humble heart is a powerful thing in any believer's life. We often speak like orphans, not knowing who we really are and Who our Father is.

The correction of your own destiny's course and substance fulfills the heart's desire and design of your Creator's intention. King David knew this principle well. He penned the eternal song to command his soul, his destiny, to come into alignment with Yehovah's heart's desire.

"Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's." - Psalms 103:1-5

To know who you are is not an act of arrogance or egomania. It is a refusal to be under the circumstances but overcoming them step by step. Our language must change from the inside, or our language means nothing on the outside.

Perhaps you should visit a mirror near you and command your soul – your destiny: "Walk like a king!"
